Blackpool Supporters Trust & the SAVE Association invite you to join us for a highly entertaining and informative evening with campaigning football legend Paul Stewart.
Paul is a former Blackpool FC favourite from the 1980s, playing over 200 games and scoring 56 goals for the Seasiders before moving to Manchester City for £200,000. He went on to play for Spurs, Liverpool and Sunderland and was capped 3 times for England.
Paul (Stewy) will talk at length about what it was like playing for some of the biggest clubs in this country, and his time with some of the biggest names in the game notably Paul (Gazza) Gascoigne.
All through his successful footballing career Paul hid a secret that he only revealed to the nation in November 2016. He will talk about the sexual and physical abuse he endured every day over a four year period at the hands of a former Blackpool FC youth scout and about the impact that had on his life and that of his family and friends.
Paul promises laughter and tears in an emotionally charged evening and will explain how he now dedicates his time to the organisation Safeguarding And Victim Engagement (SAVE) set up with four other survivors of abuse back in the early 1970s and 1980s.
This is a charity event looking to raise awareness and funds to tackle a serious issue, effecting positive change in safeguarding. Paul hopes to be able to put other survivors through safeguarding training, to help them become part of the solution and in order to prevent this blight ever happening to our young footballing stars in future.
Please join us at the Number 4 Pub Newton Drive, Blackpool FY3 8ER on 30th June at 7pm and help support our former star player in his quest to highlight the threat that these predators can still pose. Maybe you will go away and think twice when you leave you children in the care of trusted coaches or carers!
Tickets are £5 – which includes a hot pot supper. A book-signing, raffle and memorabilia sale will also take place.
Note: due to the nature of the event, the evening is suitable for over-18s only
